Welcome to 4th Grade!
meet your teachers
Hi! I'm so happy to be teaching English / Language Arts and Religion at St. Joseph's! We are going to be doing many exciting projects this year. This is my first year teaching at St. Joe’s, but my 10th year in Catholic education. I am a 3rd-generation graduate of St. Joe’s, and I’m proud to send my daughters here as well. I strive to promote a life-long habit of inquiry, investigation, and exploration that encourages students to keep Christ at the center of all that they do.
Welcome back! I hope that everyone is ready for a year full of learning and lots of activities.
I am very happy to be here at St. Joseph. I've heard many wonderful things about the people. Please feel free to contact me anytime.
Looking forward to meeting you soon.
Math: This week in Math we will be doing some activities to reintroduce some important concepts: coordinate planes, order of operations and mean, median ,mode and range. I just want to warm students up for the year. Every student will have a designated notebook for Math. Taking notes in Math is very important .
Science: We will start with learning the Scientific Method and all the parts of it. Each student will need a notebook for this class. Also, make sure you have an old shirt to use as a lab coat.
Social Studies:Before learning about the United States geography, we will review latitude, longitude, prime meridian, the equator , parts of a map and the 7 continents and 5 oceans. Again, a notebook will be needed for this class.
If there are any parents willing to help out on activities or field trips, please let me know.
I will write important dates on the calendar, however I tend to change them as needed. I will not make a date earlier , only later.
We are off to a great start.
I want to let you know that students are able to make corrections on any assignment or test .
They will then get half credit once all corrections on a paper are made. Corrections should be turned in within the quarter.
Math: This week in Math ,we will start our daily drills. Each day we will complete a multiplication/division or a Math Minute. Neither of these are timed and will be graded as a homework assignment.
We will begin chapter one which involves place value, and rounding.
Science: We will continue working on the Scientific Method.. Science tools and their uses will also be introduced.
A test on both the Scientific Method and science tools will be given next week, Wednesday, September 11th at the earliest. Students have all th he information needed in their notebooks.
*****We are in need of food coloring for some science experiments.******
Social Studies: We will finish our studies on parts of a map, latitude, longitude, prime meridian , the equator, several continents and five oceans. Students will complete a map mini poster . The first Geography test will be on Tuesday, Sept 10th. All the information students need to study will be in their notebooks.
Science: We are still working on the Scientific Method. The test for this is Wednesday, September 11. Our class will continue doing labs to keep working on and adding to the Scientific Method. On Thursday we will begin learning about the science tools used.
Math: Students have started working on the Multiplication Station. This is a self paced workshop.
Working with money and rounding are two skills we will concentrate on next in cllass.
Social Studies: This week we will finish up learning about maps and the continents and oceans.
The website called Seterra gives students a lot of practice on map skills.
Science: This week we learn about independent and dependent variables. We will also familiarize ourselves with scientific tools and use them in activities.
Math: We will finish chapter 2 working with money. We will begin doing task cards involving addition and subtraction.
Social Studies: This week will be focused on the Constitution. We will also work on our symbol of America posters.
